Turning the valve housing Wed, Apr 21st 2004 (9:14 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Center drilling bearing case attachment holes Note the use of a center drill in a collet. There was not enough clearance to do this with a drill chuck Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (11:47 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Bearing case after turning and polishing Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (11:23 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop |
Turning the bearing case Here the bearing case blank (already reamed) is bolted on the crank case to turn the tapered outer surface Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (10:35 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Machinging the bearing case I used 2" square aluminum for the bearing case to prevent waste, so it came out about .1" undersize, but it's not critical Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (9:59 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Crank case, with tapped cylinder mounting holes I was able to bore the cylinder holes with the tool I made. It cut very well after a little more grinding, and dropping the spindle down to the slowest speed! Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (1:39 AM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop |
Drilling the cylinder bottoms Drilling the mounting holes on the bottom flange of a cylinder Tue, Apr 20th 2004 (12:23 AM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Boring the crank case My boring head doesn't give enough clearance to finish the holes, to 5/8", so I made this 4-flute countersink-like tool. It cut down a bit before stopping. I think I'll use it on all five, and open up the clearance for the piston rods with a small endmill Sat, Apr 17th 2004 (10:02 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Boring the 5/8" cylinder holes I only have fixed tools up to 1/2". Due to clearance problems, I am finishing the hole to .500 with my shortened ball end mill. Not the best way! Sat, Apr 17th 2004 (8:09 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop |
Milling the crank case Removing the corners with a cut-down 1/2" ball end mill Sat, Apr 17th 2004 (5:03 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Milling the crank case Here I am cutting the final face on the crank case Sat, Apr 17th 2004 (3:33 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop | Milling the crank case I am milling the crank case for the Radial Five, mounted on Fixture A, mounted on the rotary table Sat, Apr 17th 2004 (1:28 PM) 800x600 1600x1200 Also in: Wil's Machine Shop |
